Growing up in Amherstburg, Sawyer started dancing at the young age of 6 and quickly fell in love with the craft. Through her school-aged years, Sawyer trained competitively with Nancy Pattinson‘s and eventually Dance Barre— where her passion for dance was truly ignited by former professional dancers and owners, Blake and Lindsay Angier. Upon graduating high school, Sawyer moved to LA, where she completed an esteemed Los Angeles dance scholarship program, signed with a dance agent, and started working as a professional dancer. Across her 4 years of living in Los Angeles, Sawyer was able to dance for companies such as Nike and L’Oreal, work with some of LA’s top choreographers, and even travelled with an international Nickelodeon tour. After returning to her hometown and shifting her sights towards choreography, Sawyer began choreographing for university teams, theatre groups, and competitive dancers in both the US & Canada— all while pursuing her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Movement Science.
During her university studies, Sawyer gained a passion for charity through her co-direction of the charity outreach organization known as Golden Future South Africa. Alongside her future husband, Sasha, Sawyer led dozens of volunteers overseas to Cape Town, where they were able to educate and enrich the lives of students in impoverished communities. After the organization was unable to continue with operations after Covid, Sawyer and Sasha shifted their focus towards family life, now living in Tecumseh with their 3 children, 3 and under. Sawyer and Sasha’s love story began with charity, and Sawyer is thrilled to return to their shared passion through their involvement with this Easter Seals event. With over a decade of dance teaching under her belt, Sawyer is determined to make Sasha her star pupil— or at the very least, provide the audience with some comedic relief.
