Paging Dr. Dowhayko! Born and raised in Windsor, this former student athlete graduated from nursing in 2011 before starting his career in the Emergency Department at Windsor Regional Hospital. After working as a nurse for 6 years, he decided to chase his dream of becoming a doctor. While returning to the University of Windsor to complete a biology degree, Sasha also worked as a nerd in a cancer research lab, led an organization that raised over $100,000 for charity efforts in South Africa, and met his future wife, Sawyer. Sasha was accepted into the Schulich School of Medicine in 2018, where he completed a home-grown medical degree, obtaining all his training in Windsor Essex-County. Since graduating residency in 2024, Sasha has opened a busy family medicine practice (still accepting patients, but nearly full) and is also staffed at Windsor Regional Hospital, where he works in hospitalist medicine.
In his spare time, you used to catch Sasha at Windsor Squash Club (RIP), whittling fine wood projects in his basement workshop (he built his firstborn’s crib from scratch), or cheering on the Buffalo Bills (the 2026 Super Bowl champs). Nowadays, the doc doesn’t have time for much more than changing the diapers of the legion of babies that belong to him and his wife. Sasha and Sawyer live in beautiful Tecumseh, with their toddlers Sutton & Vaughn, new baby Perry, and their dog Snoop.
Sasha’s passion for charity was born out of his involvement with the charity outreach organization known as Golden Future South Africa. Together with his wife, they travelled to Cape Town 7 years in a row, leading a team of volunteers in efforts to uplift the people of the impoverished township of Khayelitsha. Sasha even proposed to Sawyer in the clouds atop Table Mountain in Cape Town. Thanks to COVID and safety concerns in South Africa, this organization has been unable to operate, but Sasha’s passion to help others has remained steadfast. This doc is excited and humbled by the opportunity to participate in Windsor Dancing with Easter Seals Stars, and is really hoping he won’t puke from stage fright. If any other medical professionals can be on standby to run a code on his dance moves, Dr. Dowhayko would appreciate it.
