Taryn Eickmeier finds the joy of dance in everything she does! Taryn sambas as a Session Faculty in Bioinformatics at Durham College, cha-chas as an Adjunct Professor in the Faculties of Health Sciences and Graduate Studies at Ontario Tech University, and jives as an Executive Lead of Clinical and Client Services at Grandview Kids. With a passion for supporting the growth and development of others, Taryn finds tactful, creative ways to mobilize research into daily practice to benefit families and community partners.
Alongside a Bachelor of Kinesiology, Master of Arts in Health Promotion and a Doctorate in Public Health and Health Systems, Taryn is a graduate of the Public Sector Executive Leadership Institute through the Smith School of Business with Queen’s University. Taryn is the Co-Chair of the Durham’s Best Start Network, Co-Chair of the Empowered Kids Ontario Research Community of Practice, and the Vice-Chair of the Ignite Durham Learning Foundation Board of Directors. Above all, Taryn is wife to Ryan and just “Mom” to Colton, Pax and fur-baby, Maverick.
Many families who access Grandview Kids’ programs and services have benefited from Easter Seals from decades. Taryn is happy to share her love for dance on behalf of the Grandview Kids’ senior leadership team so that Easter Seals can continue to support our clients and families for decades to come!
Outside of work, Taryn is a full-time hockey Mom – Go North Durham Warriors! Taryn enjoys spending quiet mornings walking husky, Maverick, in the beautiful town of Port Perry and then transitioning to noisy afternoons of science experiments, fort-building, and mini sticks with the boys. As a child, Taryn dreamed of being a professional ballerina and competed in ballet, jazz, acro, lyrical and extended lines for more than 10 years. Fun fact – she still has all of her dance medals and trophies and the scoliosis to prove it!
The most significant accomplishment has been becoming a Mom to two very busy boys while battling through a rare, immune disorder. This experience has taught me to be a stronger advocate for myself within the healthcare system and use my own knowledge to advocate on behalf of all Grandview Kids.
