Let me introduce myself, I am an orthopedic surgeon at RVH, doing all kinds of trauma and joint replacement surgery. I have been living in Canada now two thirds of my life. I grew up in Bogotá Colombia in the best years (the 70’s & 80’s)
I learned at an early age that in South America we don’t play hockey, we dance instead! So, Saturday afternoons were spent dancing, learning Cumbia, Porro, Merengue, Salsa and Bolero. In the 80’s Disco invaded South America, and I danced through university. I used to deliver babies with my walk man listening to a radio program called Solid Gold Disco. My guess is 200 babies came into this world while I listened to Disco!!!
I moved to Canada in 1988, and things in Canada were completely different from my home. Canadian parties were guys watching the hockey game, and women on the other side chatting. No Dancing!!!
When I met my wife, I was able to show her how to dance, and we have danced my version of Disco/Bolero all over Mexico, Colombia, cruise ships, marinas, dancing this Latin/disco style has made us the life of the party, mesmerizing guests.
We took dancing lessons with Adam and Ashley prior to covid, and they introduced us to ballroom style dancing. My favorite dance has to be Tango, and now I hope to be able to show off my dancing skills at Dancing with the Easter Seals Stars.
